About This Position:

Our Vice President of Engineering will lead our IT engineering and tech teams as we scale. Our ideal candidate will be a seasoned technologist with demonstrated excellence in building sustainable, scalable technology infrastructures as well as being an inspiring leader and savvy team builder. Additionally, they will possess superlative communication and collaboration skills, a strategic and proactive mindset, and a sincere alignment with the vision and values of The Shift Network. 

 

We are looking for someone with experience in developing modern cloud-based infrastructures, building a solid ecosystem of applications that integrate into a cohesive whole, scaling strategically and with excellent leadership demonstrated every step of the way. Ability to be “hands on” when needed, while also guiding and mentoring effectively is another key attribute the VP of Engineering will use to succeed in the position.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor and collaborator to our product owners and business executives; guide short and long-term tech strategies and architecture 
  • Understand the business needs, strategic initiatives and goals and design effective and timely solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders and the business as a whole 
  • In keeping with strategic objectives of the company, design and maintain a clear, multi-year technology roadmap to achieving the evolving business objectives 
  • Acquire, direct and mentor an IT workforce that is knowledgeable, skilled, agile, stable and efficient. Create a positive, professional, collaborative dynamic within the IT Division as well as with the external dev teams working within the Shift ecosystem
  • Oversee development of our mobile app, CMS, and various platforms and applications including e-Commerce, CRM, LMS, DAM, the Martech stack and all aspects of our technology infrastructure
  • Manage technology budgets, expenses and workflow, eliminating unnecessary costs and inefficiencies, while measuring and evaluating performance of individual team members, the tech team as a whole as well as each specific project and other deliverables
  • Take a “hands-on” approach when needed, getting under the hood to resolve issues while also delegating workload to appropriate team members and mentoring them along for maximum success
  • Develop continuous improvement strategies, staying abreast of the latest technological advances and trends, while working diligently to retire accumulated technical debt
  • Spearhead the development of enhanced security systems incorporating industry best practices to safeguard digital assets and drive security processes and audits
  • Orchestrate full migration to cloud based, serverless systems to ensure seamless delivery and scalability
  • Mentor, coach and motivate our tech teams to nurture a positive, inclusive and productive technology team culture, while also driving performance and meeting targets and goals
  • Assist in guiding the company toward achieving its impact goals and objectives in a highly collaborative manner, engendering greater understanding, communication and alignment between the tech and non-tech teams alike


Qualifications and Characteristics Desired:

  • Served as the VP Engineering or comparable title for an online B2C business that experienced substantial growth under your leadership, preferably in a related service, education or media based industry featuring a variety of interactive and digital content and product lines
  • Minimum 5+ years in successful leadership and personnel management role with demonstrated record of building high-functioning, collaborative tech teams with great retention rates
  • Experience managing multiple offshore dev teams 
  • Data and Cloud migration expertise is a must
  • Willingness to work in a small, but fast-paced startup-like environment and guide change management initiatives with a hands-on, “roll up your sleeves” approach
  • Experience with e-Commerce, Mobile Apps, CMS, LMS, DAM, Community Platforms, Martech stack & Data Analytics, Subscription models, ERP and UI/UX
  • Experience with Drupal, React, Atlassian suite of tools, Firebase, Bitbucket, AWS
  • Passion for transformational education and impact activities, high integrity, unquestionable ethics and a positive, inclusive attitude
  • Related engineering degrees and/or education; Business management training or MBA a plus
  • Strongly preferred: working knowledge and familiarity with transformational learning industry and/or personal development, health & wellness field
  • Must be aligned with the vision/mission of the company
  • Familiarity with the programs, key leaders, and events that The Shift Network offers
  • 1-2 years remote office experience (preferred)
