As Sr. Manager of Podcasting, this role will work closely with the VP of Media and the Podcasting Team to help establish a baseline strategy and align around critical business goals, and make recommendations to establish best practices for podcasting. This position will help to influence fundamental strategies and make suggestions for a roadmap/plan for Shift podcasts. The position will work closely with the Podcasting Team, in designing and implementing podcasts with new and repurposed material from Shift, as well as attracting podcasters with their own established shows into our forthcoming network. This position must have a clear understanding of the company mission and values and match voice and intention to product and podcasts. 


Responsibilities and Desired Skills:


  • Review relevant components of the podcast industry for Shift
  • Recommend content strategies from simple to more complex opportunities (repurpose and new)
  • Explore lead-generation and revenue opportunities including up-sells to existing  programs, subscriptions, sponsorship, and potentially advertising
  • Provide recommendations on best technology and business practices for publishing, measuring, and monetizing their podcasts
  • Coordinate with social media teams to identify and pull social moments for shared media platform promotions
  • Recommend marketing opportunities for audience growth from both current and new Shift users
  • Review internal needs to deploy and maintain podcast content
  • Connect to outside resources if necessary for both content, production and marketing support
  • Play the lead “connector” in identifying and bringing successful and related podcasts into the Shift’s podcast network
  • Review new and existing content and work with editors to make it “podcast friendly”
  • Design and oversee production calendar of multiple podcast shows to get them up-and running
  • Help to drive key KPI for 2021 of 1million downloads per month across all Shift podcast channels
  • Work with the Shift app team to deliver our podcasts inside of our app


Production Management: Multi-faceted experience ranging from coming up with ideas, to managing the production schedule, and strategizing how to promote the various shows. This role oversees the process of developing the podcasts and makes sure things are running smoothly.


Guest Research and Scheduling: Works with show runners on guest booking cadence and outreach needs, including calling, emailing and scheduling guests. Manages internal and outside research teams to ensure “quality control” of the guests, consistency of Shift brand voice, and maintenance of show style. 


Story Producing: Where necessary, help with scripting intros/outros and interstitials to refresh back catalogue content for new podcast episodes as well as story editing back catalogue content.


Audio Management and Editing: Oversees managing the podcast’s audio and podcast producer’s role, including overseeing recording, editing and distribution of each episode.


Analytics Tracking and Reporting: Monitors podcast metrics, like the number of downloads, listener demographics, and listening times, to make improvements to how the podcast is structured and produced. These analytics may need to be shared with other team members. 


Leadership: Responsible for interacting with a lot of different people on the team and ensuring that everyone’s work aligns. 


Qualifications and Characteristics Desired:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 3-5 years or relevant work experience to include podcast management and development experience
  • Experience in planning, implementing and independently managing multiple projects
  • Experience producing content on multiple platforms including the Internet, events, and mobile devices
  • Experience developing, launching and fostering new programs, and repurposing programs/podcasts
  • Experience in a multi-platform content creation a plus
  • Ability to create and foster high standards, demonstrating an ability to teach, inspire and lead
  • Demonstrated commitment to mission-driven and audience-focused values
  • Leadership qualities of presence, confidence, judgment and integrity
  • Ability to create a vision for these media to be used for effective communications, audience development, public service and revenue growth
  • Ability to critically interpret audience research
  • A strong team orientation and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate at all levels with clients, faculty, team members, senior management staff and industry colleagues
  • Deep understanding of the spirituality/personal growth/consciousness market and strong preference for the social impact/restorative justice initiatives and the key speakers and players involved.


Work Location: Two days office attendance required for local employees on Tuesdays and Thursdays, when past current events, otherwise remote


Work Hours: Generally Monday-Friday, 9:00-6:00 (unless otherwise indicated)
